Random Thoughts of a Random Guy
OK … for all those of you who were dying to see more pics of the darling sweet little girl … here we go …
The new web server is allowing me to do some pretty nice things … including the ability to run a gallery now … so if you click on that photo it’ll take you away to a whole bunch of cutsie baby Brie photos … yay!
If you were to look up the migration patterns of the fabled Canadian Black Box, you would find that it has travelled far over the years … it was up in Vaughn, then Richmond Hill, next down to Toronto and most recently out to Oakville …
However it has made it’s biggest move yet … if you’re reading this post then you are witnessing the migration of the Black Box from a simple old machine sitting in a room in my house out to a proper hosting facility on god knows what kind of hardware … that’s right, I’ve finally bit the bullet and setup the Box Site on a proper web host … Host Papa for those of you who care …
All of this is of course due in large part to the migration off of Domino … and with the web site gone, there are practically no reasons left to be running Domino at home … TRULY … a sad sad day …
Alright … I saw it … granted it wasn’t ON opening weekend, but I’m a dad now … I have other responsibilities … besides, I couldn’t get tickets …
Now … I have seen it … and at almost every turn I was surprised … pleasantly … by either a familiar actor playing a bit role … by an unexpected twist in the story … or by a superb portrayal of a twisted character. Yes, Heath Ledger was off the hook as the Joker … he nailed it, nailed it good … so in the end I would have to say you need to see it … just be prepared to be … twisted … 😀
Random other thought … I’ve been working on a side project here … it’s coming along quite nicely … and yes, it’s all because I switched over to WAMP … it’s an NFL stats database … this is something I’ve tried to do in Domino for years but wasn’t able to … and of course, I switch over to PHP and MySQL and it’s a snap … yes, I shoulda made the switch years ago …
So it may not be readily apparent … but I have basically overhauled the ENTIRE backend of the site … I threatened to do it a couple of weeks back … but I’ve gone ahead and stepped up … this site is no longer on Domino … but WAMP … which for the uninitiated is a combination of Windows, Apache, MySQL and PHP. What does this gain me? Well, it’s a little lighter on the server … plus it’s portable to an external host if I decide to stop playing with a server in my office … and there’s also a TON of applications which I can just throw onto the server immediately …
Oh, the kid? She’s doing great … she’s starting to be prone to REALLY big crying fits … but her Mom and I are managing … really? Bottom line is that she’s fantastic …
So if you see something on the site which doesn’t look quite right don’t stress it … I’m probably working on it …
