On the Train – After Lotusphere

Monday, February 3rd, 2003

Well, it’s Monday morning and I’m on the train back into work. I think I might miss Florida … ewwww …

I put the final post up for Lotusphere. On the whole the trip was pretty much a success. The only really bad thing about it was that I effectively learned that within the next five years I’ll need to learn a new back-end, in the form of WebSphere and DB2. I’m going to touch on the highlights of the trip …

- Going to Universal’s Islands of Adventure and heading to Marvel Super Hero Island. WOW. That’s a point all in it’s own.

- Riding the Hulk Coaster twice, the SpiderMan ride and the Doctor Doom Towers of Fear all within 30 minutes. And all before 10am. In case you were wondering, yes my stomach didn’t handle that very well.

- Going on the Jaws ride over at Universal Studios Orlando.

- Watching the T2 – 3D Battle Across Time feature at Universal. Awesome.

- Having Rudolph Guiliani as the keynote speaker for the Opening Session.

- Realizing that I’m not alone as a Big Notes Geek, and being treated to a setup worthy of a rock show. Well, maybe a Backstreet Boys show …

- Having my faith reaffirmed by the features and fixes implemented in Notes and Domino 6.

- It’s a Hard Life – A Bug’s Life 3D tale at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Watch out for the hornets …

- Having the entire Magic Kingdom just for Lotusphere participants on Wednesday night. Which meant …

- Going on the Buzz Lightyear shoot-em ‘up ride several times without any lineups.

But the best thing I can take away from the entire trip?

Being the lone grown up in a line full of 8 and 10 year olds waiting to have your picture taken with Buzz and Woody. Then, telling Woody to scram because I wanted to get my picture taken with the man …

That one will end up on the site … : )

On the Flight – Lotusphere 2003

Saturday, January 25th, 2003

Well here I am … winging my way south towards the Mecca for Notes Heads. These flights always bother me because of the simple fact that these seats are too constraining. Like when someone decides to turn and have a conversation with someone beside you … intruding on your space. Or the person in front of you decides to go into full recline, making typing on this very keyboard very difficult … guess I can’t complain too much, seeing as I am getting to spend a week at Disney World …

And what a week it’ll be. This is going to be a ton of fun. I’m not planning on doing too much on the way of extra curricular activities, I’m just planning on making those few activities count … : ) I’m planning on taking in Universal Studios – Islands of Adventure, the House of Blues with the Marsh gang and that’s about it. I guess the rest of the time I’ll just enjoy the above zero temperatures. If they manage to get there … : )

There will be a dedicated site for this trip, although I’ll probably update in both locations. Yes, I’ve got a digital camera so there’ll be plenty of photos coming out of this trip. Hopefully the majority of them won’t be the uber geek variety of nothing more than the bed of shame … : )

V6 is doing some funky things to components of the various sites. You may notice the Outline on the left is showing little folder icons, or perhaps the graphics are off … One more thing to fix … but at least I’ve signed up for the Q&A session with the developers so that I can partake in the witch-hunt which always seems to ensue … : )

ooohhhhh … Release 6!

Saturday, January 18th, 2003

Yeppers, it may not seem like much on the outside, but this is running on the NEW release of Domino! May not look like much from this side, but hooboy are there some changes under the hood …

I’ll be going to Lotusphere the week after next, so I should have some posts up about that little trip. all kinds of uber nerd goodness … : )
